Teacher Assistant Float, Head Start (EBCAP0447)
East Bay Community Action Program (EBCAP) is seeking a part time/full year Teacher Assistant to join our team and provide a nurturing and safe classroom environment for children in the Head Start program at 790 Main Street in Warren, RI. The Teacher Assistant will work in partnership with the teachers, to provide daily classroom activities that are developmentally appropriate for preschool children. The teaching team is responsible for promoting the health, nutrition and education of the children and to attend to their safety and welfare. Under direction of the Lead Teacher, the Teacher Assistant will follow the requirements of the Head Start Performance Standards, RI Child Care Center Regulations for Licensing, and RI Department of Education Early Learning Standards. Our Head Start program utilizes the Positive Behavioral Intervention and Supports (PBIS) approach and the Creative Curriculum to ensure that all children have the opportunity for a high quality, nurturing, and safe learning experience. The Teacher Assistant must have excellent communication skills to effectively communicate with parents, children, and staff. The Teacher Assistant will assist the Lead Teacher to provide a supportive social-emotional classroom climate, assist in classroom activities and transitions to ensure that children are under appropriate supervision and guidance always. The individual must have one of the following: RI Department of Education Certificate of Completion of Teacher Assistant Training, OR HS diploma/GED with 6 college credit hours in ECE coursework and one-year supervised experience in ECE classroom; OR Child Development Associate (CDA); OR Bachelors or Associates in ECE or a related field. *The Rhode Island quality rating and improvement system, Bright Stars defines related degree for early childhood education teachers as Human Development, Psychology, Sociology, Social Work, and Education. Pediatric Nursing, Home Economics/Family & Consumer Science, Physical Education & Recreation and Child & Family Studies. Head Start teacher assistant/float candidates who hold a related degree will have 9 credit hours of coursework in ECE related courses that include but are not limited to child development, early childhood education and curriculum, early childhood teaching and assessment, psychology, family development, health and physical development, mathematics, science, children’s literature, approaches to learning, social and emotional development, language development and communication, creativity, professionalism, differentiated teaching and learning.
